A socially conscious art collective and purveyors of decorative, handcrafted homefineware & bespoke chandeliers.

At Magpie studios we believe the work that we do meshes art and design with meaningful commercial and social entrepreneurship. We create handcrafted art using a broad range of recycled materials and refuse elements in our inspired inventions. In addition to our studio works, we undertake commissions, produce a range of exciting craft-project linked products and maintain an exhibition presence.

The Rooi Doppies Project is our social action framework. Through this conceptual endeavor we connect ourselves as a collective to the broader objectives of human empowerment, through the provision of technical support to community income generating ventures. As well as endorsing crafters and civil society enterprises that address critical social issues, such as HIV/AIDS, alcohol abuse and environmental concerns.

Magpie was founded in 1998 by Designer and Craft Icon Scott B. Hart along with Social Entrepreneur and Ashoka Fellow, Shane A. Petzer. In 2006 Sean Daniel, Fine Artist & Painter, and Administrator Richard Panaino joined Magpie at our central studio in Barrydale.
